The K-12 School Shooting Database monitors school shootings across the United States. The highest number of shootings on record happened in 2023, with 349 incidents. In 2024, there were 323 school shootings, making it the second-highest year since 1966.

Texas had the highest number of shootings in 2024, with 24 incidents. Ohio followed with 20, and California and Tennessee each had 171.
